Subject: Pro Tour Players Club - Program Update
Dear Pro Club Member
A number of you have expressed concern about your ability to level up within the Pro Club this year. With fewer Pro Tours and more players at each Pro Tour, it's just harder to accumulate Pro Points than it was last year. We attempted to compensate for that by lowering the thresholds for levels 4, 5, and 6; but it now seems clear that we might not have compensated enough. The real problem (if you want to call it a problem) is that the Pro Tours have grown bigger than we were anticipating. All the changes we made in our effort to overhaul the Pro Tour and make it a cooler event have worked better than we expected, and the attendance has swelled faster and higher than we thought it would. This is a good problem to have!
This e-mail is intended to let you know that we are aware of your concerns and we intend to address them. Specifically, we will definitely be adding more Pro Points to the system starting next season and we will probably be lowering the points necessary to reach some Club levels this season. We're still debating the exact details of our plan for next year, but it will probably include extending Pro Points down to 64th at Grand Prix and having about half the field at Pro Tours get more than the minimum two points, among other changes.
As far as this year goes, our plan is to look at things at the end of the season and see how many players have achieved each Club level based on the system that we announced and published in our Invitation Policy. We have certain internal targets for how many players we think should be in each level (several level 6's, at least 75 gravy trainers, etc) and if our system doesn't populate each level with a reasonable number of people then we will retroactively lower the thresholds until it does. We're not going to decide or announce anything official until after Worlds, but we did want you guys to know that we realize we are almost certainly going to do something. We recognize how important this is to everyone affected so we will do our best to make and announce our final decision as soon after Worlds as possible.
Thank You,
Randy Buehler
